Tiklas Falls01

Upon travelling to Misamis Oriental, which is a province of the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region, you should not miss some of its few captivating tourist destinations.

One of the best entrancing spots that you should not miss is the Tiklas Falls, located in Barangay Lawit, Gingoog City, the main and most well-known tourist attraction in the city.

It is one of the reasons why Gingoog is branded as the “City of Waterfalls’ because of the diversity of falls that it is blessed with. It is believed that the city has over 30 waterfalls that one needs to pass arboreal and secluded areas before seeing them. The waterfall is located 13 kilometers away from the city proper.

Tiklas Falls has a powerful body of water that surges up to 50 feet from the brink to the base. The area is bounded by the green beauty of nature, and one would love to see the wild herbs, edible plants and some ornamental flora planted along its nature path.

You would feel the cold winds as soon as you reach the concrete bridge where you will start feeling the gentle water droplets or drizzles of the waterfalls. One can stand on the concrete bridge going to the park where one can have a picturesque view of the waterfalls and take many photographs. Tourists should be reminded that littering in the area is strictly prohibited.

Like other tourist attractions, the area near the waterfall have also been developed as a resort (which is part of the eco-tourism program of the city government) where one can enjoy swimming. There are cold spring swimming pools for adults and children with the falls on its background and cottages for rent are also available for tourists and excursionists.

Tourists will certainly be delighted in experiencing this enchanting and majestic waterfall. They can also have their picnic here with the waterfall as the backdrop. Before reaching the falls, you need to trek for about 15 minutes on a rocky nature trail.

The entrance Fee is just minimal and is collected for the tourist spot’s maintenance. There are neither business establishments nor food stalls within the vicinity of the area and tourists are reminded to bring with them their own food and drinks.

Swimming at the foot or the base of the falls is strictly prohibited since its powerful current may cause accidents and injuries. The best time to visit the resort is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are no accommodations or lodging houses in the area and no one is allowed to do any night camp-outs so you have to return to the city proper if you plan to spend a night in Gingoog.
