Malindi is located at Kenya’s coastline facing the Indian Ocean. You can also see from the map that it lies on the same bed as the Galana River,, which is roughly 120 kilometers from the city of Mombasa.

Founded in the early 13th century, Malindi is one of the oldest Kenyan towns, harboring an estimated 208,000 inhabitants as of the latest census.

In an annual scale, Malindi’s temperature is under the median average of 26.4 degrees Celsius, with March considered to be the hottest month. The heat and steam is said to stretch for up to 3 months until July, when the cold season starts to kick in.

Precipitation is virtually present throughout the whole year, but it is the month of May, which contributes the most rainfall. April starts the wet season at an average of 181 millimeters of accumulated precipitation, followed by May with a whopping threshold of 293 millimeters.

Temperatures drop to as low as 21.4 degrees and can endure from the last quarter of the year until the beginning of the next.

Since it is somewhat far from the capital city of Mombasa, travelers can only get to Malindi via private transportation, such as taxi services. The main airport, which caters to both domestic and international flights, can be found only in Mombasa, and as of the most recent inquiries, there haven’t been any plans of putting even a smaller aviation terminal in Malindi soon.

For some divine inspiration while on your enjoyable vacation in Malindi, never forget to pay the Portuguese Church a visit. Located in the city center, this edifice of faith was erected by Vasco De Gama and is memorable to Malindi’s entire race due to the historical value it holds.

This church, mentioned in folklore, was visited by St. Francis Xavier when his Holiness was on his way to Kenya.

Malindi Marine National Park

If you wish to enjoy Malindi’s marine life, then you definitely have to visit the Malindi Marine National Park. Covering an impressive land area of 213 square kilometers, feast your eyes on the different creatures in Malindi’s aquaculture.
