If story books were true then one of the places they describe would be right in the heart of Poland. Krakow city’s splendor is not only rich in impressive sights because each artwork and key structure tells stories of the past.

Be entranced by these tales while visiting the magnificent places found in this city. Krakow might have gone through harsh treatment in the past, but its scars beautifully turned into tourist attractions and learning destinations in the current time.

Location

Krakow has been one of the prime cities in Poland dating back earlier times. Because of its role in the economy, the city was chosen to be the capital of different eras staring 1038.

It is located in the southern part of Poland right at the foot of Carpathian Mountains. The city is rich in natural resources, which is why five locations in it are officially protected. The city itself spans an area of 326.8 square kilometers.

Climate

Climate in Krakow is a combination of temperate European marine west coast and sever continental conditions of Eastern Europe.

The driest month is February while the largest amount of rain falls in June. July is the most ideal time to visit Krakow because it is the warmest, while January is the coldest. As defined by Holdridge life zone systems, Krakow is a cool temperate moist forest biome.

Transportation

Krakow is inviting in every sense because it is easy to reach. Being one of the major cities in Poland, the city has developed its own transportation system. The city’s main airport is John Paul II International Airport Krakow situated in Balice. The airport hosts both domestic and international flights mostly to and from other key cities in Europe like Vienna, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, etc.

The city also has a well-developed train system that passes through different cities in Poland. It can also be reached through the Eurolines from countries like France, Italy and UK.

Attractions

Royal Wawel Castle

The castle was originally built in the 16th century and had gone through different functions in different stages of history. Originally the home of royalty, the castle became a military barracks in the 19th century.

Wawel is a sight to behold due to its rich adornment of Renaissance and Gothic influences shown in the designs surrounding it.

Wawel Cathedral

This is also one of Poland’s most important structures. This is the place where monarchs were crowned. Here, the tombs of important figures from the Polish royal line can be found.

It is also abundant in art. The cathedral showcases art forms from the Baroque to Modern periods of history. Important pieces include the mausoleum of St. Stanislav and 10 ancient bells from 1520.

Dragon’s Den

This is fantasy translated into reality because its scenic form was connected to local folklore of a Dragon residing within.

There is a Wawel dragon statue found at the exit made by one of Poland’s greatest artists, Bronislav Chromy. This adds appeal to the place especially for kids because it spurts fire.
