With its history conveyed through its structures, Sibiu is hailed as one of Romania’s frontrunners when it comes to providing a medieval vibe that captivates the interest not only of history buffs, but of usual tourists who are out to find enjoyment with a touch of being cultured as well.

Location

This antique city is located in Transylvania, Romania. It is around 12 km away from the Cibin Mountains while Bucharest is situated to its northwest. There are around 20 city districts here including Centru, Valea Aurie and Turnisor.

Sibiu has gained more popularity especially after it was named one of the European Capitals of Culture alongside Luxembourg back in 2007.

Climate

Sibiu has a temperate continental climate. It is mostly characterized by severe winters and warm summers. Average nice weather usually occurs between the months of May to September.

On average, August is the warmest month while January is the coolest. Most precipitation falls during the month of June, making it the wettest month the whole year round.

Transportation

If traveling internationally, coming in by plane is possible by booking a flight to Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport. From here, the most common mode of transportation used going to Sibiu is via bus. Not only does this option provide comfortable travel, resorting to this is also cheap.

Sibiu also has its own airport that caters to local flights as well as those going to Germany and Italy.

Churches

If there’s one place in Romania that’s deeply rooted when in its religious beliefs, it would be Sibiu. The city is rich in churches that served an important role in the city’s history.

For example, this Evangelical Church was built during the 14th century and is still admired due to the majestic architecture mainly influenced by the Gothic design.

Museums

You will never run out of museums to visit in this city. The ASTRA National Museum Complex is one of the most visited exhibits for different works of arts that embodies ethnology and civilization. The Brukenthal National Museum is also another option that is situated right inside the palace of Samuel von Brukenthal.

There are about 1,200 artworks here that came from different epochs, including the 15th until the 18th century.
