Witness the enchanting metamorphosis of Vang Vieng

vangviengmain

(1)

Formerly a place where parties have been a common occurrence, the rehabilitating town of Vang Vieng in Laos is now a sanctuary that pretty much looks like a surreal scene from a very expensive painting.

Gone are the days where most travelers avoid this very town due to high tendencies of being chaotic—currently, this is something that the country of Laos is bragging about.

With the help of a vigilant government and a cooperative populace. If ever you’d drop Vang Vieng a visit now, prepare yourself to be amazed by how it have evolved—luscious and healthy flora and fauna, the relaxing sways of cerulean waves, the very tranquility of the ambience and funky boutique hotels lining the beachfront.

Truly, this town has gone from zero to hero and is being turned to by its mother country as a melting pot for tourism and commerce.

Location

vangviengmap(2)

Vang Vieng is specifically located in the riverside area of Central Laos. It is perched in the middle of two equidistant tourist spots, which are Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

Dividing the whole town into two halves is the legendary river of Nam Song.

Climate

vangviengclimate(3)

According to the Koppen Climate Classification, Vang Vieng, like the rest of Laos is under the tropical savannah type, which means that weathers are ambivalent to dry and wet episodes.

One thing that you might want to bear in mind is that Vang Vieng is really not a place to visit during the months of May to September due to heavy rainfall and flooding.

The rest of the year aside from the aforementioned months are on the hot and dry side, which is cognitive for trips to the beach and outdoor strolling.

Temperatures are highest on the months of March until April with a mean rate of 33 to 35-degrees Celsius.

Transportation

vangviengtranspo(4)

Getting in Vang Vieng would take a longish road trip from Luang Prabang’s airport terminal or Vientiane’s main drop-off point and can take 6-8 hours and 3-4 hours respectively. Main method to get inside the town’s center is through the use of buses and minivan services.

Due to Vang Vieng’s small land coverage, it is best and recommended to get around town via walking, bicycle rentals or renting motorbikes.

The local mode of transport, which is called ‘tuk-tuks’, is also readily available for a more unique way in scanning this small city’s travel destination.

What to See

Pedang Cave and Ring Cave

pedangringcave(5)

Be in touch with your adventurous side and set yourself trekking a high mountaintop with a cave waiting for you at the zenith.

Explore the short-spanned cave called the Pedang and Ring Cave and be convinced that Vang Vieng is a must-visit place for thrill seekers.

Tham Poukham

thamphoukam(6)

This very place is usually crowded with tourists due to the fact that this river has a makeshift bamboo bridge for sightseeing.

Tham Poukham is also dotted with vendors selling local stuff; security is at its finest as there are a lot of policemen roving the grounds and is mesmerized by the nearby Sleeping Golden Buddha.

Xang Cave

thamcave(7)

Dubbed to be a well maintained cave due to its well-lighted exterior and managed staircases for tourist convenience, Xang Cave is slowly rising to fame as one heck of a destination in Vang Vieng.

At the peak of the cave, you’d have a breathtaking view of the farms circling the city and the directions inside won’t really require you the services of a tour guide.

Be enamored with Pazin as how Jules Verne did

pazinmain(1)

Known worldwide for the chasm and the castle bundle, this greenish patch of land in Croatia is your dream destination if you wanted to exhale the strong aroma of nature every single second.

The laid back aura and the carefree vibe that’s being displayed by its locals is one heck of an advantage to those who crave for tranquility within their getaway.

When you’re one of the many who excels in outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and climbing, you’d also find this place a beauty due to the endless possibilities that one can do outside.

The linked trails of streams through forests, the swaying leaves of towering trees and the silent hum of animals lurking in the distance, all capped with the hospitality emanating from every cheap hostel and household, Pazin is truly a magical place to be in.

Location

pazinmap(2)

Known to be an Istria’s administrative seat, Pazin is located and connected to almost any known place within the country. Specifically located in the middle of the Istrian peninsula, Pazin is scarcely inhabited by locals with just a population of almost 11,000 for both urban and rural settlements.

Some of the cities that surround Pazin include Umag and Rovinj, both conveniently can be accessed. Currently, there are little divisions that comprise Pazin, which includes Beram, Bertosi, Butoniga, Heki, Lovrin, Lindar, Vela Traba and Zarecje.

Climate

pazinclimate(3)

Due to its strategic location being in the center of everything, Pazin experiences what the rest of Croatia does when it comes to its weather. As according to the Koppen Climate Classification, Pazin is under the marine west coast climate which equates to two seasons and high probability of rainfall every day.

The months of June and July are deemed the hottest and temperatures are set as high as 37-39-degree Celsius. The heat gradually drops down and the cold months of November until February can be felt and can go as frigid as -2-degree Celsius.

All throughout the year, rainfall is experienced with July with the lowest precipitation count of 2.55 inches while December recorded at 4.87 inches of rain showers. April is said to be the rainiest month though, with almost 13 days of rainy days recorded per annum.

Transportation

pazintransport(4)

Generally, you won’t be able to catch a flight to get in and get out of Pazin as there is no available terminal near it. As of current writing, there are no plans of getting an airport in place of the city just yet.

The very intrinsic bus system is the best way for you to travel from the nearest airport to Pazin which can take up to 6 hours depending on the place of origin. The bus lines hovering around the city would also give you access to be transported onto neighboring cities such as Pula and Zagreb.

A taxi cab, which is rather uncommon, is also available for you to scan the city’s travel spots, but it will be best for you to go places on foot. Bicycles for rent can also be an alternative and is available within the city.

What to See

Pazin Chasm

chasm(5)

Undeniably one of Pazin’s most treasured travel destinations, The Chasm is a natural architecture made to please the adventurer ego in you. Dropping down to a 100 meter dive, the Chasm will then end onto the bottom where the Pazincica River sloshes.

The very spot has been a peg for some of Jules Verne’s work and the entrances can be found by Hotel Lovac or a cave maze guided by an expert. The natural canyon can best be enjoyed for city viewing or just for sheer outdoor activity.

Castle

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
(6)

Just adjacent from the equally famous Chasm, Pazin’s Castle is also a notable landmark which has been built AD 983. This glorious castle is made from an amalgamation of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture and is now home to two small museums.

Get your cameras ready and take a photo by this looming Pazin original and feel the ethnicity being reverberated within its walls.

Lighthouse

pazinlighthouse(7)

Located on the westernmost tip of the Istrian peninsula, the Lighthouse, built and incepted in 1818 is by far one of the best and the tallest lighthouses around the world.

You’d be delighted to know that this piece of history has been off for rent in a weekly span just for the enjoyment of the lucky few who can afford the fees.

The Lighthouse is your best bet to go to when you wanted to see a panoramic view and the sweeping greens of Pazin or if this is your idea of a romantic day cap, and then book ahead as early as you can.

Ethnographic Museum

ethnographix(8)

Located inside the infamous Pazin Castle, the Ethnographic Museum would definitely give you the best chills as this is home to several artifacts that scopes a total of 4200.

The collection present and well-preserved inside the museum is comprised of tools, pottery and garments used by the local and olden Istrian locals.

The way the stuff has been maintained would definitely leave you gaping in awe.

A closer look to Golden Bay: Drifting to one of New Zealand’s perfect holiday spot

Golden Bay(1)

The sun is yet to peak at the horizon, but there’s already a murmur of activity as the lazy morning comes knocking in the form of delish breakfast and popping of joints.

And as the sun travels on its constant rhythm across the sky, so does the holiday-goers going from one destination to the next.

From enjoying the water through swimming and water sports to an adventure walk and horse ride and to everything else in between, there is always something for everyone.

Perhaps Golden Bay is not anymore New Zealand’s kept secret and not as remote as we would like it to be. Yet Golden Bay’s magic and charm are yet to fade and there’s a high possibility it wouldn’t be.

LOCATION

Golden Bay Map(2)

Golden Bay is located at the tip of South Island particularly on its northwestern part. Golden Bay is above Nelson and bounded by two of the region’s national park: Kahurangi National Park and Abel Tasman National Park. On the northern region of Golden Bay is Farewell Spit a long, thin coast separating the place from the sea.

CLIMATE

Golden Bay is no doubt a popular place for international visitors as well as for the locals. During summer, its peak season, hundred thousands of tourists descend upon the area as well as during the school holidays, so the crowd is really massive.

For a more blissful visit to Golden Bay traveling at an off-season would be best. You can have the area to yourself and some of the few. February, the end of summer season is a good time to go as well as during autumn (March – May) and start of spring (September – November). Autumn is slightly cooler from summer and spring has an erratic behavior, yet it is still worth a chance.

Being located at the tip of South Island, Golden Bay is one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, so visitors of the off-season would still be able to enjoy long daylights.

TRANSPORTATION

Takaka Hill(3)

Visitors going to Golden Bay often comes from Nelson where their accommodations are located meaning Golden Bay is only a part of their itinerary. From Nelson, you have to make the slow and the long climb over Takaka Hill or more popularly known as the “Marble Mountain.” the drive will take four to five hours.

It is also the same if you take Queen Charlotte Sounds if you came from Picton in which tourists are dropped off there through ferries. If you’re from Christchurch, you have to take the Lewis Pass, Murchison, Nelson and Highway 60, where it will also lead you through the scenic drive of Takaka Hill. The drive will take around seven hours.

ATTRACTION

Adventure along the road

Pupu Spring(4)

While it was already established that the slow climb to Takaka Hill is already a delight in itself due to the scenic view of the mountain, another gemstone of this journey Te Waikoropupu Springs.

Four kilometers northwest of SH60 lie the largest freshwater spring in the country. Also known as “Pupu Spring,” it vents a rough estimate of 14,000 liters per second disturbing the sand and making them seem like dancing together with the flora thriving in the place.

The Maori tribes, which are the naives of the place, considers the springs a sacred place.

Ngarua Caves(5)

Another delight for the journey to Golden Bay is the Ngarua Cave. The caves are gorged out massive spaces of karst from Takaka Hill and features Moa bones as well as other subterranean marvels. However, access is limited to guided tours.

Mussel Inn

Mussel Inn(6)

Before you reach Farewell Spit, the journey would not be complete without stopping at Mussel Inn. It is a popular pub between Takaka and Collingwood where you will experience New Zealand at its finest and most genuine sight.

The pub is a cosy, creaking-timber place where there is lively music, brown beer brewed with manuka, and a delicious homemade food.

Farewell Spit

Farewell Spit
(7)

Farewell Spit is a whole new adventure. It is along sandy beach wrapping around Golden Bay and separating it from the sea. It is a long walk to the lighthouse where you will see multitudes of birds, as the place is a famed bird sanctuary.

Apart from bird watching, you can also ride on a shaggy Icelandic horse and observe the scenery of almost desolate ocean and dramatic landscape Farewell Spit.

Horse Ride(8)

Some horse trekking activities are en route to Wharariki beach and vice versa in which it takes around three hours of horseback riding.

The place in which it takes place is called Cape Farewell. There are also some trips that take overnight, depending on the prior agreements.

Wharariki Beach

wharariki-beach(9)

Wharariki Beach is popular for its seal colony. They are located in the eastern part of the area, particularly in Cape Farewell where there are also rock pools.

Due to the continuous crashing of waves to rocks and sand, massive dunes are formed on the coast of Wharariki.

The best time to visit the beach would be on a low tide where you can go as far as the massive rock formations and have a blissful walk along its coastline.

The money being raised from this is usually being rendered to the betterment of the Chincoteague Fire Volunteer Department.
