Every year, expectators from all over the globe gather to witness the tradition that started in the book ‘Misty of Chincoteague.’ Ponies would swim from the Assateague channel to Chincoteague Island. The money being raised from this is usually being rendered to the betterment of the Chincoteague Fire Volunteer Department.
