They say that the people who live near a sea border are the ones who are typically calm, collected and peaceful. With all the serenity that the waters have instilled in their daily lives, it is no wonder why the aforementioned notion cannot be true.
In fact, a living testament to that are the inhabitants of Agios Nikolaos in Greece, a magical place lying and being surrounded by bodies of water that have been included on their way of life.
Location

(2)
Agios Nikolaos is geographically situated on Greece’s land edges, facing the very serene Mirabello Bay. The town sits directly above the bedrock of the island of Crete, which is just on the eastern side of Heraklion, Crete’s major capital city.
It can find north of the historical town of Ierapetra and on Sitia’s western tip. Just last 2011; Agios Nikolaos have been formed by merging three separate government domains coming from Agios Nikolaos it, Neapoli and Vrachasi.
Climate

(3)
The small town of Agios Nikolaos is classified under the warm Mediterranean climate as according to Koppen System due to the fact that the place itself is near the weather-changing Mediterranean Sea.
It is in this place that summer isn’t irritating as the cooling sea breeze of the sea is there to pan things down while winters are known to be very wet yet leaning on the milder side. Beach weather can be observed easily in the months of July and August wherein temperatures can peak as high as 29-30-degrees Celsius on an annual scale.
Rainy days are deemed to be starting as the year closes in December and can last up to the month of February. The following months of March and April are said to be the coldest with a minimum temperature as low blow as 3-4-degrees Celsius with little chance of precipitation.
Transportation

(4)
You’re very lucky indeed as even with Agios Nikolaos’ small scope of land area, it still has the capability of having an aviation terminal via the Nikos Kazantzakis Airport which serves in-country and European flights via scheduled timetable.
Also, if you’d be traveling in and out of Agios Nikolaos by water travel, there had been a lot of ferry trips being offered at Crete’s capital Heraklion which is just 64 kilometers way and can be accessed via bus rides.
If the main airport is not enough, tourists can also take advantage of the Sitia Airport, which a good 67 kilometers away and is offering cheaper domestic and luxurious charter flights.
What to See
Archaeological Museum

(5)
Agios Nikolaos is known to be notorious when it comes to preserving their culture and origin and it is all blatant when you visit the city’s Archaeological Museum.
In here, you’d be able to lay your eyes on an expansive and very detailed collection of Minoan artifacts and handicrafts, clay coffins, ceramic dishware, musical paraphernalia and even gold items from the island of Mohlos.
The museum pegs on giving their visitors a very specific way of knowing the Cretan culture and so you’d be exposed to an exhibit wherein dates have been chronologically fixed and organization is truly redefined.
Almyros

(6)
Located at about 1 kilometer south of Agios Nikolaos’ city center, you can now get into the Grecian experience of skinny dipping and beach skimming via the Almyros escapade.
You can easily access it via foot if you’re feeling frenetic and the sun is ablaze on this side of town as there are no makeshift shades in here, just you and the sun with nothing in between.
The beach takes pride in the tranquility of the waters and the crystal clear view of the life underwater.
Folk Museum

(7)
Focusing on the local stuff that have been harnessed just over the past 50 years, the Folk Museum is truly a breathtaking place to be in if you want to see a quick snap of how Agios Nikolaos thrived before being the tourist hotspot that it is now.
The museum offers an extensive array of costumes crafted for local events, well-appointed handicrafts that have evolved over time and the traditional collection of things and trinkets used by the olden Agios Nikolaos civilization.
