The unexplainable reason behind the shape of the curved trees that exists in the “crooked Forest” remained a mystery to this day.
There are 400 pine trees that grow with a 90-degree northward bend at their base. The “Crooked Forest” is about 80 years old which were planted in the 1930s.
There are a lot of speculations that may have cause trunk curvature of those trees.

There are theories that the curvature was caused by the heavy snow that could have flattened the base of the trees for a long period of time.
The thick layer of snow on top of the trunk while the trees were still saplings would have caused the permanent shape of the trees.
Another theory is the invasion of Poland in World War II in which the enemy tanks that passes through the young forest may have plowed the trees to the extent of flattening the base of the trees.
However, the theory is still being questioned since only a small portion of the forest was affected and that those crooked trees has uniform curvature which is unlikely to be caused by the plowing of tanks.
Some says that the eerie and strange looking trees was caused by an Alien invasion in earlier years when the forest was just about seven years old.
It was said that the alien spaceship may have landed in the area that causes the bending permanently.
Above all those theories, the widely accepted theory was that the cause is purely man made.
It was said that a group of farmers intentionally planted the trees and damaging the base for future use in creating uniquely shaped furnitures.
However, due to the break of World War II the plan was not materialized and the trees were left in the forest.
