Oh Oland!

Location

Oland is located in Baltic Sea near the coast of Smaland and considered to be one of Sweden’s largest Islands. The place covers 1,300 sq km over a length of 137 km. Known to be a go-to summer spot, Oland has a variety to offer from its boasting beaches, to man-made attractions all the way to fun activities tourists can enjoy.

Climate

Sweden lies in the higher latitude that’s why the most areas experience longer daytime. It generally has temperate climate due to Gulf Stream.

Its northerly position has a definite summer advantage because temperatures are rarely extreme and humidity levels are not high.

Transportation

Oland can be reached in different options. Traveelers can do a six hour drive from Stockholm.

Other route is taking a car of passenger ferry that runs between Oskarshamn and Byxelkrok.

Travel is approximately 3 hours.

Attractions

Borgholms Slott

Constructed in 1965, this was originally made in the purpose of being a fortress and a defense against enemies across Baltic Sea.

The castle is now ruins that hosts events, concerts and theater performances.

Eketorp Fortress

Get the feel of medieval fortification in this museum-within the castle tourist attraction.

The site also hosts short shows of medieval battles that have occurred there during the earlier times.

Kalla Old Church

First built in 11th century, the wooden church underwent renovation transforming it to a stone architecture that also served as fortress against Baltic invaders.

The place is now being preserves and now turned into a tourist attraction.

Lerkaka Vaderkvarnar

Oland used to have 2,000 windmills but only 350 were left today. This picture perfect attraction is really a stunner that is worth stopping by.
