Launceston is and will never be second best

In any type of listings, being ranked second is quite frustrating and appealing all at the same time.

When you’re dubbed as the next best thing, all you can think of is to snatch the grand title to its current holder. Being on the number two spot only meant one thing, your well on your way the one on the top, maybe not now but in the future. Hobart is coined as the best city that there is in Tasmania, Australia.

Hobart is such an invincible town being celebrated for its’ diversity in culture and the performing arts, the wellness that its inhabitants’ are experiencing and the blatant progress that is now being observed all throughout the city. But in the back of Hobart’s recognition is a city that is steaming inside out and fuming that they could and should be on Hobart’s sweet spot.

Meet Tasmania’s Launceston, a small town which is dense with its elite wine and food scene, attention-getting architectural preserves and the outdoors-y feel that it exuded through sports and nature. Launceston is now on the rise into stumping Hobart out of the chain, and you won’t be able to validate the town’s efforts without visiting, or at the very least knowing, it first.

Location

Perched on Tasmania’s northern Tip, Launceston is a humble city of almost 100,000 in populace and is currently being the talk in general mass media in lieu with their government’s drive in promoting tourism. Launceston is the second largest city in Tasmania next to Hobart. Specifically laying its soil bed atop the Tamar Valley, Launcestonians are 45 kilometers south of Bass Strait and about a hundred kilometers from Devonport.

Perched between two merging rivers South Esk and North Esk, Launceston is also now to be an open and gaping port for commerce and trade. Aside from its water-sectored ports, Launceston is also known to be bordered with verdant hills and tall shrubbery, making the amalgamation of modern and primitive quite a trait to bear in mind.

Climate

Due to Launceston’s mountainous and hilly topography, the town is off to experience a cool and temperate climate. They are also quite lucky enough to experience four distinct seasons. Weather forecasts are difficult to maneuver as sudden changes in temperature are being observed within each day.

The hottest parts of the year are on January and February with temperature playing at the 20-24 degree range while coolest month is tagged in July with a 2.2-degree lowest mark. Snow is not much of an event in Launceston since the last recorded snowfall in this town is in 1986.

Transportation

Going in and out and around Launceston is best by using owned or rented cars.

With almost 721 total kilometers of rural and urban tracks, a traveler must be smart enough in planning their itinerary for effective skimming of what’s interesting to visit and what’s just a waste of time.

Australia has ensured that most operations are government-operated and Metro Tasmania is your choice when you wanted a thriftier kind of transport. Metro Tasmania bus lines include public buses that serviced almost all of Tasmania including Launceston.

Being strategically situated at the central area of the suburb, five highways surround Launceston which is a good way to map your way in and out of the city as it ends with several cities on its path.

Launceston Airport is present for air travel and caters going in and out customers almost all day, every day. Located at about 15 kilometers south of the central business district, Launceston’s only airport caters to well known airlines such as Jetstar Airways, Sharp Airlines, Qantas and Virgin Australia.

Operational since 1881, Boag’s Brewery is known to be the sole producer of James Boag’s nutty and oak-tasting beers.

Aside from the fact that you would be able to experience how it felt like to be drunk in William Street, Boag’s would also tease and please your brain through their on-site museum which features throwbacks of the company’s commercials, preserved press releases and the like.

Launceston City Park

Architecture and nature connived in making the central City Park a must-see place.

The verdant and luscious looking plants and towering oak trees decorated this plain path of land and Victorian-inspired architecture is pretty much evident on the bandstand and playground structures.
