Madang Province and its collection of mountains and rocks

madangmain(1)

Hiking and other forms of human activity that is in retrospect to mountains, valleys and volcanoes would require not only the abundance of the aforementioned land formations but of human strength and willingness.

While some of us would not, in a heartbeat, stretch our muscles in climbing steep terrains and mountainous peaks, there are still millions of daredevils from all over the planet who would, wholeheartedly.

The thrill of being able to reach the summit and the joyous journey in between, together with one’s affinity with nature is the perfect mix to make an outdoor-sy one extremely happy.

And the Heavens would actually not gift a group of inhabitants an intrinsic mountain formation if they don’t know how to take care of it, and Madang Province is one of the few blessed areas in this planet who have received such a ‘rocky’ blessing.

Location

The province of Madang in Papua New Guinea is a huge chunk of land which stretches 300 kilometers long and 160 kilometers wide at the berth.

Madang Province is comprised of one main island and four offshore islands.

On Madang Province’s southern pole lie humongous land formations such as the Bismarck Range and the Ramu Valley.

Bismarck and Ramu are known within Papua New Guinea as rich sources of timber, palm trees and a vast expanse of rainforest.

On its’ northern end lies bodies of water such as the Bismarck Sea, Malas River, Sogeram River and Gogol River.

Climate

Madang Province is one of the few cities which boast a stable weather condition all year round. Specifically, Madang Province is under the tropical rainforest climate classification which meant that no distinct and identifiable season can be deduced per year.

On the months of July until September, there’s a noticeable drop in precipitation but the general temperature whole year round is set at a 30-degree Celsius mark. Humidity rates are also on a high-brow as precipitation is continuous annually.

Transportation

With air travel, you should not worry since Madang Province’s national airlines fly in and fly out every single day. There are two airline services that cater to Madang Province which are Air Niugini and Airlines Papua New Guinea. If you want to reach Madang Province by road, use the roads of Lae and all other major highland cities to penetrate this humble province.

Scheduled cruises and boat transfers are readily available for tourists such as Boat Star Shipping which operates once or twice per week. For going within the depths of Madang Province, you can resort to using buses often circling the area.

Because of the fact that some of Madang Province’s areas are still underdeveloped, road wise, it is highly suggested to not travel after 6:00 PM and stay on your chosen place of accommodation for dinner.
