The Famous Glass beach

The Normal typical beach would offer you either white sand, black sand, powdery sand shorelines, but the Glass Beach is distinct due to its glassy shore lines. According to Fort Bragg’s history, the abundance of glass along its shores was made possible through a seemingly bad start which ended up promoting their county more.

The glassy shoreline was created through the succession and the number of years of dumping garbage in the northern part of the town. It all started in 1906 when their residents established an official water dumpsite known as Site #1.

The piles of trash were lit with fire to reduce its quantity, but it still ended up all the more crowded and so they settled in a different location naming it as Site #2 in 1949.The older locals later filled it again then moved to the northern part, which is then called as the “Glass Beach.”

The local government created programs to correct the damage done but ended up with zilch. Over the years, all the metals and scrap degraded due to the natural effect of the pounding waves over the coastlines. It resulted to cause the glasses to break down into smooth, smaller pieces, making it look like a refined stone from an expensive ornament.

These three glass beaches were opened to the public in 1998. The California Department of Parks and Recreation bought the Glass Beach property and was later combined with MacKerricher State Park.
