Normally, when a city is near a port area, it is often overlooked just as a terminal starting point and end point. Tourist just set foot here to go to big cities and places in the inner part of the country without giving time to at least scan for possible activities that can be enjoyed too.
Sadly, this specific lay off of logic is what’s happening in Burgas, a port city in the country of Bulgaria that have been standing there to be explored, not just a part of your transport itinerary. Burgas is a small town bustling with life and vigor as locals get to welcome tourists who will just pass by their beloved land.

Location

Burgas is located in the western edge of the celebrated Black Sea, hence, the inclusion of this town on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. When it comes to measuring, Burgas is considered to be Bulgaria’s fourth largest next to Varna, Sofia and Plovdiv.
Burgas is well surrounded by the calming Burgas Lakes and is being resided by nearly 201,000 citizens as of last count. The city is at about 242 miles from Sofia, 208 miles from Istanbul and 169 miles from Plovdiv.
Aside from the Burgas Lakes, some notable places, which border Burgas, are Atanasovsko and Mandrensko, the Pan-European Corridor and European Routes E773 and E87.
Climate

Due to its specific location, Burgas has an infused climate that leans on humid subtropical and the amalgamation of continental and maritime influences. In an annual estimate, the city is having a 17.6-degrees Celsius temperature, owing the hottest months to May, June July, August and September.
These five months are said to be the town’s summer season, with 28-degrees as their mean average temperature. The start of the rainy season kicks in December and can stretch as far as the month of March, with an average of 9-10 days of rain showers and thunderstorms.
Precipitation can happen anytime within the year and so the accumulated rain doesn’t really have a structured forecast as compared to other types of climate.
Transportation

Located at about 10 kilometers from Burgas’ city center lies the Burgas Airport that is currently being served by the infamous Bulgaria Air. Aside from being connected to nearby cities such as Sofia, you’d be delighted to know that you can also be transported to Budapest, London, Prague and Warsaw via the Wizz Air, which runs every summer.
Some other international flight carriers would also serve customers from and to Germany and USSR. If you want to have a more personalized way of getting in, out and around the city, then you might want to take advantage of Burgas’ train station built in 1902.
From the train station, some trips are offered to Sofia, Plovdiv, Kazanlak, Stara Zagora and Sliven. Bus trips are being handled by the Yug Bus Station, which offers scheduled trips to equidistant cities such as Nesebar, Sunny Beach, Kiten, Tsavero, Pomorie, Sinemorets and Varna.
What to See
Sv Cyril & Methodius Cathedral

Aside from being a place of worship, locals and tourists have this inner liking to visit Sv Cyril and Methodius Cathedral due to its intricately designed architecture and the sheer peaceful vibe that it exhibits.
In here, you’d be delighted to see walls and walls of colorful murals depicting scenes from the Bible, well-carved iconostasis and finely manicured ornaments on the altar and the megalomania brought about by the looming ceiling made to be perfect.
St. Anastasia Island

Known to be a part of Burgas’ scope of land, St. Anastacia Island is finding its very own voice to be one of Bulgaria’s newest attractions. Being apart from the Burgas’ city center, this island is a former religious retreat camp and prison, which is not vacated and is ready to be explored.
In here, you’d be able to have a day tour, which will consist of visiting a lighthouse, staying inside a holy monastic cell and even sample herb potions being made at the place.
Natural History Museum

Burgas, being a port city, is definitely inclined into having a rich flora and fauna that is now being enclosed on glasses and deep study at the Natural History Museum.
Inside, a tourist can get his/her eyes on the well-preserved types of animals and plants that have existed and is still existing in the whole of Burgas with detailed information to widen your understanding.
Aside from those, there’s also an extensive collection of rocks, seashells, insects and stuffed animals for you to tickle your imagination and intelligence.
Burgas Beach

Not as posh as the other beach found in the whole of Bulgaria but the Burgas Beach is being adored by locals and tourists due to the realism it channels.
You’d expect some teenagers swamping around makeshift dive boards at the edge of the shoreline, fish folk gathering at the corner to talk about their latest catch and kids dipping their little toes in the shallowest part of the sea. In here, you’d be able to swim as if you’re not a tourist and just a part of Burgas’ daily expense of activities.
